Modified Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy for Treating Posttraumatic Kyphosis

Abstract
We present the case of a patient who had posttraumatic kyphosis with disc degeneration and was treated using modified pedicle subtraction osteotomy. In addition to posterior closing wedge osteotomy, posterior interbody fusion was used to lengthen the anterior column. Modified pedicle subtraction osteotomy is a useful technique for treating posttraumatic kyphosis due to neglected posterior ligamentous injury wherein disc degeneration caused by upper endplate injury is usually accompanied by a wedge deformity. This technique avoids the morbid thoracoabdominal approach and achieves opening-closing-type correction with a reduced chance of dural buckling.
